Studies on the Major Accidental Network

this very basic composition off of the major scale showcases the main aspects that will be replicated in most of the other studies.  In particular, the notion of a retrogression and a progression being two parts of the composition is present here.  In the beginning part we have a progression that starts on the C Ionian and then progresses to F Lydian and continues the progression around the major scale eventually finishing on G mixolydian (annotated with the capital F).  the second portion of the peace is a retrogression which will start on C and then progressed G mixolydian and go all the way around the major scale ending on aft Lydian.

this is not a very original sounding composition in either the progression or the retrogression direction.  This is to be expected given the central role that the major scale has within all musical compositions.  Thus the familiarity and harmonic smoothness of these progressions should be seen as a fundamental template for what we consider harmonious in Western music.
