An introduction to KCM composition

KCM relies on a visual approach to composition which is one of the main reasons for choosing category theory (CT) as our mathematical basis.  CT states that any mathematical system based on sets can be graphed as a collection of dots and arrows.  KCM has taken this philosophy to heart and create several diagrams, each in context, describing music theory.

As a first attempt at composition using KCM,  in each of the following studies a diagram is presented and then a pattern played through that diagram.  The pattern choosen on the diagram is the simplest pattern possible: a connected path or loop though the diagram.  We then play one bar for each mode we traverse in sequence.

We make ample use of Axiom 1 and Axiom 3  in the following compositions given that we use the major scale and accidental networks.   No use is made of Axiom 2 however insofar as the chords are laid out in a sequence based on paths through a diagrams, not tritone dynamics.  As such, these studies are atonic in that there is no tonic sought or implied.  The software used for these studies, Chordbot, automatically handles voice leading between the chords and thus Axiom 4 is automatically satisfied.
