KCM considers the following to be TONIC (abv.:Ton):
1st scale degree: Major Tonic
3rd scale degree: Conditional Minor Tonic
6nd scale degree: Minor Tonic
…and thus share in the following properties:
-Repeated applications of the tonic note/chord/key will establish an expectation to remain on that tonic note… absolute for 1 and 6; conditional on 3.
-The tonics have the tritone the furthest away from the bass note and are thus the most “relaxed”
-The tonics have a “pull” effect in that if established in gestalt memory, there will be a constant “pull” to want to “resolve TO” to it.
Note on 3rd degree as Tonic:
While the 1st and 6th degree are conventionally major and minor tonics, the 3rd degree is not so conventionaly… Let’s talk of why the 3rd degree is ton and not sub or dom
